A Sad Drowning

Adrian Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. L. Allen of Samish Island, was drowned yesterday afternoon near Samish Point. It seems Adrian and a companion were returning in a boat from Edison with a supply of groceries, and when nearing the Point, a heavy squall struck them, capsizing the boat. An Indian, who was near by in a canoe, set at once to rescuing the two young men, and did manage to pull Allen's companion into his canoe. But before he could get to Adrian, he disappeared for the third and last time. Adrian, who was clinging to the boat, endeavored to divest himself of his raincoat, which made him lose his grip on the boat, and resulted in his drowning before aid could reach him.
Adrian was 24 years old and was a half-brother of Mrs. L. L. Andrews of this place. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the family home, and will be conducted by Rev. Harris of Bay View, and the interment will be in Bay View cemetery.
