He was a half-brother of the poet
William Allingham
whose ashes are buried in a plot immediately in front of his grave.
Both were sons of William Allingham.

Hugh Allingham and Louisa Day were married in Worcester, England, in Summer 1871.

In the 1901 census, the Allingham family were living at The Mall, Ballyshannon.

Hugh Allingham, aged 55, a Bank Official, married,
He also noted that he was a member of the Royal Irish Academy, and author of History and Antiquities.
Louisa, his wife, aged 51, married, born in Sutton, Cheshire,
