Fred E. Allman, A.K.A., The Old Prophet, 88, of Columbus, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, February 21, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Allman was born January 25, 1928, in Jackson County, Indiana, to Purtle and Retha Poore Allman. He married LaFern P. Anderson November 20, 1978.

Mr. Allman was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a draftsman at Arvin Industries and Caltherm in Columbus and at Berkley Mills in Hendersonville, North Carolina. After retirement, Mr. Allman and his wife were carriers for The Republic and he had been a bank courier.
His hobbies included reading, walking, and riding his scooter.

Mr. Allman is survived by his wife of 37 years, LaFern; children, Shirley Myers, Becky (Don) Mills, Lois (Rick) Capps, Helen Allman, and Harold Allman all of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Glenn Allman of Bishop, California; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Allman was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert, Harold, and Richard Allman.
Mr. Allman was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Perdue Allman.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
A memorial service for Fred E. Allman, 88, of Columbus, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (April 9, 2016) at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
