Mrs. Mary A. Allmand, for nearly 40 years a resident of this city and widely known, died at 3 o'clock this morning after a long and painful illness.
Mrs. Allmand had been ill with dropsy and heart trouble for nine months, and for a long time it had been known that she could not recover. Since Sunday she had been in a critical condition and she was unconscious when she passed away.
She was born in Detroit, May 29, 1857, but passed the greater part of her life as a resident of this city, where she was held in warm regard by many friends. She possessed those qualities which command respect and admiration, and during the months she suffered which preceded her death she was patient and always hopeful and cheerful. For many years she had been a member of Zion Lutheran church, and always took an active and helpful interest in the work of the church and of the various societies connected with it. Mrs. Allmand spent her life in helpful service to others, and there are many in every part of the city whom she has helped and encouraged when they were sick or in trouble.
There survive her two daughters, Ethel and Alyce, five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Alber, Mrs. Carrie Allmand, Mrs. Elizabeth Graf, Miss Katherine Schaible and Miss Alice Schaible, all of Ann Arbor, and four brothers, Michael, George, Jacob of this city and David of Lovells, Mich.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 3 o'clock at the family residence, 518 Packard street. Rev. A. L. Nicklas will conduct the services and the interment will take place in Forest Hill cemetery.
