Alice was a daughter of Daniel Annesley Freeland and Mary "Polly" Marlatt. In 1848 she became the second wife of Jacob Almas, a son of David Almas and Hannah Hess, of Barton Township. Alice and Jacob lived in Windham Township, Norfolk County and had children together including: Celestia Elizabeth Almas and William Almas. On July 3, 1873 in Simcoe, her widower married his fourth wife and her 48-year-old sister, Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Freeland.
