Man Found Dead
By City Patrolman

A 68-year-old Reading man was found dead in bed in his home yesterday afternoon by a city patrolman who was summoned by neighbors who "suspected something was wrong."
Patrolman George H. Smith discovered the body of Adam I. Althouse after gaining entry to the man's home at 1217 Mulberry St. through a second-floor window.
Smith was sent to investigate after Mrs. Bruce B. DeTurck, 1221 Mulberry St., called City Hall at 1:25 p.m. and reported that she and her husband believed something was wrong with Althouse, adding that the house's doors and windows were locked.
Born in Reading, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob K. Althouse, he was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Prior to his retirement, Althouse had been a barber by trade.
His wife, Edna (Straub) Althouse, died in 1958.
Surviving are a son, Harrison, of Hamburg; a daughter, Anna, wife of Thomas Hill, Reading and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Gibson and Sanders Funeral Home, the Rev. Samuel C. Jaxheimer officiating. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
