A. June Alvord, 93, of Olney, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Burgin Manor, Olney.

June was born on June 11, 1922 in Richland County, the daughter of John and Mary (Eck) Alvord.

In her quest for CHALLENGE, OPPORTUNITY and ADVENTURE after graduating from Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis), she was a Home Service Advisor for Indianapolis Power and Light Company for seven years; Assistant Director of Home Economics at Niven-Russell Research, Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri for 12 years; and finished her working career with 17 1/2 years as a Consumer Protection Specialist for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission in Kansas City and Chicago. She retired from the Federal Trade Commission in Chicago in January 1988.

Before and between those jobs, she was employed for shorter periods of time as a Final Inspector at Curtiss-Wright Corporation in Indianapolis; an English teacher at Olney Township High School; a saleswoman and a cashier at Sears Roebuck & Co. in Indianapolis; Program Assistant on Irene Lindgren's show, "Through the Kitchen Window" at WFBM-TV in Indianapolis; Equipment Group Leader, Home Economics Section at Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City, MO; and Consultant for the Dairy Council of Great Kansas City.

Her honorary listings included the Who's Who of American Women, 3rd through 6th Editions; the Dictionary of International Biography, 1966; and World's Who's Who in Commerce and Industry, 15th Edition.

She is survived by her three nieces, Anita (Raymond) Frohning of West Liberty, IL, Karen (Frank) Runyon of Olney, and Cathy Lewis of Ashboro, NC; six nephews, Donald (Noi) Lewis of Thailand, Rodney Walker of Southport, FL, Jerry (Frieda) Walker of Olney, Michael Walker of Tempe, AZ, Richard Walker of Clay City, IL, and John (Regina) Lewis of Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, three sisters, Ethel Violet Alvord, Vera Lewis Jackson, and Ruth Walker, two nephews, John Walker and Charles Lewis, a grand niece, Tiffany Walker, and a great grand niece, Elizabeth Ann Walker.
