RECENT DEATHS.
Alvord.
John M. Alvord, whose death occurred
Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, had
been a resident of this village for
thirty nine years, all but two of which
were spent in the employ of E. & T.
Fairbanks & Co. He was first book
keeper in the old counting room,
afterward for some thirty-three years
shipping clerk, in which capacity he
probably saw to the handling of
more scales than any one man in the
manufactory. By his employers and
by all who knew him Mr. Alvord
was held in high esteem. Under his
modest bearing was firmness of
purpose and principle, and his works
were always more than his words.
During the two years of his failing
health, while unable to do much for
others and while three children and a
grandchild preceded him to burial,
his quiet acquiescence in the will of
his Heavenly Father gave little
indication of the struggle within. Mr.
Alvord with all his family belonged
to the South church, with which for
thirty-nine years his religious life was
identified. Of eight children only
one survives, with her mother. The
warmest sympathies of all our community
are with these who remain in the midst
of so great loss.
