Elsie Machado Amarante, 93 of Gustine passed away Thursday, September 22nd at the Dale Commons Retirement Community in Modesto.

Mrs. Amarante was born in Modesto and was a lifelong resident of Gustine. She was a parishioner of the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine and member of the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters for 60 years. She was also a member of the Gustine Senior Citizens Club, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Auxiliary and PFSA (Portuguese Fraternal Society of America).

Mrs. Amarante is survived by her sons, Richard (Patricia) Amarante and Ron (Kathy) Amarante; daughters, Patricia (Jim) Connor and Nancy (Anthony) Castro; ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Amarante; brother, Joseph Nascimento; sisters Mary Medeiros and Emily Silveira.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 28th at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Gustine. A Rosary/Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 29th at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine. Interment to follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
