Kathryn Conner Ambrose, 89, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Kathryn, affectionately known as "Kitten" to those nearest and dearest, was born April 10, 1924, to Burland and Addie McMullin Conner in West Point, MS. Her early years were quite a struggle, losing her father at age two and feeling lucky to get an orange in her stocking at Christmas. She persevered, attended and graduated from Pheba High School.

During the war effort, in 1943, Kathryn was sent to Camp McCain as a telephone operator where she fell madly in love with a motorcycle military policeman by the name of Edward "Eddie" Michael Ambrose. After a whirlwind romance, she married the man who turned out to be the love of her life. While living there, Kathryn learned to pilot an airplane and was about to make her solo flight when her mother made her promise not to get in a plane again. Those of you who knew her relationship with her mother, "Miss Addie", understand why she never stepped foot in a plane again! While Eddie was serving our country in the South Pacific during WWII, Kathryn lived with Eddie's family in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where his parents settled after moving to this country from Poland.

Kathryn and Eddie eventually settled in Greenwood, MS in 1950 where they found lifelong friends. Kathryn worked for Mississippi Valley Gas whose employees became family and retired for the "first time" after 35 years. Kathryn continued to work over the next eleven years for the Leflore County Tax Assessor's office where they named her "Miss Priss". After "threatening" to retire for years, she finally did at the age of 85.

Kathryn was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer of the Methodist Women's Society for several years and was a charter member of the Russell Sunday School class. She also volunteered for the Cancer Society, Greenwood Leflore Hospital and Cottonlandia Museum. Above all, Kathryn was an enthusiastic and dutiful servant of God.

Always a twinkle in her eye, Kathryn loved life, snow ice cream, her husband, family and friends, and last but not least, her adorable "Boots". Kathryn's devotion to her mother Addie's care throughout her life was given selflessly. Kathryn was an extremely generous person with both her time and resources, always expecting nothing in return. She was truly an angel in disguise.

Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, Burland and Addie McMullin Conner, and her husband of 60 years, Edward "Eddie" M. Ambrose. Kathryn is survived by her Uncle W. D. "Mack" McMullin and his wife, Sue, of Raymond, MS, her cousins W. D. "Bill" McMullin, Jr. and his wife, Vanita, of Madison, MS, Lynda McMullin Steadman and her husband, Mike, of Jackson, MS, Betty Jo Bennett (wife of the late Jarvis Bennett, Jr.) of Walnut Creek, CA, Jay Bennett and his wife, Leslie, of Reston, VA, Jeff Bennett of Concord, CA and other extended family members. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with service at 11: 00 AM at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home on December 2, 2013. Interment will follow in the mausoleum at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood. Rev. Glenn Seefeld and Rev. Brad Hodges will officiate. Kathryn's wishes were to have memorials in lieu of flowers to the Endowment Fund of First United Methodist Church of Greenwood, MS.
