Dorothy Mae Mitchell Ambrose, 83, passed away February 23, 2008 in Pass Christian, Mississippi at home.
She was the youngest of eight children born March 24, 1924 to P.T. Collins and Orelia Mitchell.

Dorothy was known as "Ms. Dot" to family and friends. She attended St. Tammany Parish Public Schools. She and her daughter, Audrey Mitchell Ambrose moved to Pass Christian at a young age where she remained a resident until the Lord called her home. She was employed as a Domestic Caregiver for the Gex, Walsh, and Butterworth families for over fifty years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, teaching her grandchildren to play piano and being alone. Dot was flamboyant, stern, conservative and an independent, strong woman. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Audrey Mitchell Waheed; two sisters, Minola Parker, Elizabeth Brown; two brothers, Stanley Kelly, Charles, Kelly; a great-granddaughter, Armatine Ambrose. Mrs. Ambrose had one sister who died a few days after her, Helen Kelly.

She leaves to cherish her memory four grandchildren, Judy Ambrose James, Robert Ambrose, Kimberly Ambrose Turner all of Pass Christian, Robin Ambrose, Gulfport; 12 great-grandchildren, Stacy (Poochie) Ambrose Dedeaux, Robert Callahan, Willie James, Jr., Tiwanna Ambrose, Luke Turner, Joseph Ambrose, Michael Ambrose, Rahim Ambrose, Krystle James, Shenna Ambrose, Stevie Ambrose, Shauvon Willis; 21 great-great grandchildren; special great niece, Orelia Williams; special "play" daughter, Nikki Butterworth; special friend Jackie Gex; and many relatives and friends.

Our grandmother was a "soldier". Dot was history; she represented life for our family. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
