Father Juan Amoros, missionary, managed Mission San Rafael from 1819 to 1832, during which time it went from an extension hospital of Mission San Francisco de Asis to full mission status in 1822. Father Amoros also built a water clock used at Mission San Rafael.

He was originally buried in Mission San Rafael Archangel cemetery in 1832. Father Amoros remains were moved to Mount Olivet Cemetery in 1885 according to Betty Goerke, author of "Chief Marin, Leader, Rebel, and Legend" (c) 2007. She cites "San Francisco Monitor" June 3, 1885 issue as historical record of fact.
