Jack S. Amos, 81, Kokomo, passed away at 12:34 AM Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born August 3, 1931 in Galveston, Indiana to Paul Henry and Margaret Leota (Logan) Amos. On May 18, 1956 in Galveston, Indiana he married Teresa L. (Bourff), and she survives.
Jack graduated from Galveston High School in 1949 where he led his basketball team to an upset victory over Logansport in the sectional. Jack served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Supply Sergeant; he was honorably discharged in 1955. He retired from the Kokomo Fire Department in December of 1983. He also owned and operated "Jack Amos Painting" for forty-years.
Jack was a fifty-year member of Grace United Methodist Church, and the Masonic Howard Lodge #93 F.& A.M. Jack read his Bible daily, and he loved the Lord. In his younger years, Jack enjoyed trapping and hunting with his father-in-law, and he loved fly fishing on Lake Manitou where he has a summer home. Jack also enjoyed watching Wildkat basketball. Jack lived to work, and he really enjoyed maintaining his apartments along with his grandson. He loved and supported his grandchildren in everything they did, and he was a wonderful dad. He also was a devoted husband who took care of his wife, Teresa.
Surviving is his wife; Teresa L. Amos, Kokomo, a daughter and a son-in-law; Angela and James Stamper, Kokomo, two grandchildren; Alexis Stamper, and her fiancé, Jon Newlon, both of Kokomo, Abram Stamper, Kokomo, one sister; Helen Jean Humbert, Kokomo. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother-in-law; Mark and Jerri Bourff, Russiaville.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 219 West Mulberry Street with Reverend Dr. P. Mark Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the United States Air Force and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 PM at the church, where a Masonic service will take place at 7:30 PM. Also the family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the church.
