"WESTERNPORT — Andre "Andy" Amyot, age 81, of Westernport, died on Friday morning, June 9, 2006, at Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born on Jan. 22, 1925, in Cohoes, N.Y. and was the son of the late Dr. Joseph Amyot and Eva (Ploude) Amyot. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Andy grew up in Cohoes, and attended Sienna College. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He and his wife moved to Western Maryland in 1959 where he worked for Westvaco for 25 years. He retired in 1980.

He enjoyed spending time with his large family and nothing made him happier than the weekend gatherings or a house full of family celebrating the holidays. He and his wife, Peg enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. One of his favorite hobbies was genealogy. He was a member of the American-French Genealogical Society, Le Federation Franco-Americaine du New York, and the American-Canadian Genealogical Society. Andy, Peg and his son Bob made several visits to Canada researching family history.

Andy was a faithful Buffalo Bills fan and he enjoyed tailgating and attending the games with a large crowd of family and friends. He was recognized by the Bills organization in 2003 for being the top fan in the state of Maryland.

He was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and had served on the parish council. He was a life member of Victory Post 155 American Legion in Westernport, and was also a life member of the Queen's Point Post 6775 V.F.W. in McCoole. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 685, Westernport, and Oakland Lodge 2481 B.P.O. Elks.

Andy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret "Peg" (Burger) Amyot; and six children, Mark Amyot and wife Debbie of Rawlings, Michelle Layman and husband Mike of Frostburg, Bob Amyot and wife Kathy of Barton, Maribeth Amyot of Storrs, Conn., Joe Amyot and Lori See of Yorktown, Va., and Drew Amyot and wife Jaime of Westernport. He is also survived by 10 loving grandchildren and several nieces and nephews with whom he had a very close relationship. He is also survived by three sisters, Jean Kilebrew and husband Tom of Cleveland, Tenn., Monica Bourgeois and husband Paul of Cohoes, and Adele Andrews and husband Bill of Half Moon; and one brother, Joseph Amyot and wife June of Latham.

The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport on Monday morning at 10 a.m. with Father James Hannon as celebrant.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Members of the various veterans' organizations will provide a military funeral.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Martin, Joe Shillingburg, Harris LeFew, William Fredlock, William Thompson and Joseph McGowan.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Peter's Stain Glass Window Fund c/o St. Peter's Catholic Church, 127 Church St., Westernport, MD 21562.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Tony Saweikis and his staff and to the staff of Potomac Valley Hospital for their extraordinary loving care over the past year."
