Killed at Baker's Creek (the Battle of Champion Hill), Hind County, Mississippi on 16 May 1863.

Military service records contain this information: A. J. Anderson, Private, enlisted April 24, 1862, killed at Baker's Creek, Mississippi, May 16, 1863. Service record verified. Murray County Census of 1860, visitation #170, shows he was 28 years old, lived in home of James and Elisabeth Anderson, used post office at Spring Place.
