Minnie "Sandy" Akins, 63, 912 Valverde St., died Thursday in an Amarillo, Texas hospital.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in Carlsbad Cemetery with the Rev. Cleve Kerby of Blodgett Street Baptist Church officiating.

Arrangements are with Denton Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Johnnie Harris, Harry Young, Bill Greene, James Condon, Mickey Akers, and Benny Soto.

Born Oct. 11, 1923, in Tulsa, Okla., she was a homemaker and had lived in Carlsbad until about six months ago when she went to Amarillo for medical treatments.

She is survived by her husband, William D. "Dub" Akins, Carlsbad; her mother, Alta Mae Anderson, Riverside, Calif.; seven sisters, Anita Reynolds and Mary Jane Tornow, both of Riverside, Calif., Betty Massucci, Amarillo, Dorothy Price, Sun City, Calif., Rose Flint and Louellen Chilton, both of San Diego, Calif., and Shirley Wilcox, Whittier, Calif.

The family requested memorials be made to the contributor's favorite charity.
