Mrs. Ben Anderson, Early Resident of Shotley, Dies

Mrs. Ben Anderson, 88, a resident of Shotley since 1903, passed away at her home there last Friday, July 26, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Inga Carrie Anderson was born in Varmland, Sweden, May 5, 1858. She immigrated to Red Wing, Minn., and from there went to Minneapolis where she married Ben Anderson in 1892. They settled at Shotley July 3, 1903.

Six children were born to them, Linnea Peters of Minneapolis, Willard, Ethel and Walter of Shotley and Laura of Kelliher. A daughter, Della, passed away in 1930, and her husband also preceded her in death in 1934.

Services were conducted by Rev. G. Lindou of McIntosh, an old friend of the family. A family service was held at the home of the deceased at one o'clock, and at the Swedish Lutheran Church of Shotley at two o'clock on Monday, July 29.

A Swedish song was sung by Rev. Lindou and two songs by the Kelliher Girl's Choir, accompanied by Carol Thompson.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Swan Edlund and Joe Willman of Sebeka, Minn.

Pallbearers were six grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Leonard Kolden and interment was made in the Shotley cemetery.

Following the services, a lunch was served by the Shotley Ladies Aid.

They had lived in the United States for 17 years 9 months, and in Beltrami County for 2 years 10 months. Children (all born in Minnesota): Ethel V. (12), Adla L [Linnea] (10), Emma L [Laura] (8), Hilma V [Della] (6), and Louis W.A. [Willard] (4).

He was married to Inga Anderson (47) born about 1863 in Sweden and immigrated 1885. Children: Ethel (17), Linnea (15), Laura (13), Della (11), Willard (9), and Walter (4). Also living there was Bengt's brother-in-law - Olaf Anderson (49) born about 1861 in Sweden and immigrated 1902.

1920 Census: Ben Anderson (55) and Inga Anderson (60) were living in Shotley, Beltrami, Minnesota. Children: Laura (23), Willard (18), and Walter (14). Brother-in-law Olaf Anderson (58) lived with them as did Anton Olson (40) who is listed as a servant although in 1940 he is listed as Inga's nephew. A boarder lived with them - Hjelmar Edlund (27) born about 1893 in Iowa.

He was married to wife Inga Anderson (69) born about 1861 in Sweden and immigrated 1887. Children: Willard L (29) and Walter B (24). Living with them was Bengt's brother-in-law - Olaf Anderson (68) born about 1862 in Sweden and immigrated 1902, and Inga's nephew - Anton Olson (53) born about 1877 in Sweden and immigrated 1903.

He was married to Edna E Anderson (32) born about 1908 in Minnesota. Children: Lillian E (9), Dolores E (8 months). Occupation - laborer.
