Sacred to the memory of
John Andre Esq.
late of Sloane Street in the County of Middlesex.
He departed this life on the 5th. of January 1804,
Aged 51 Years.
To Sympathy's unerring feelings true,
In him the child of want a patron knew;
No flattres praise his modest worth requird,
By all respected and by all admired;
With meek philanthropy untouch'd by art,
With honest pride that dignifies the heart,
With fine affections warm yet ever even,
He formd on earth a transitory heaven.
No ostentatious verse the Muse shall give
No pompous line to bid his virtues live.
Superior praise shall decorate his name,
For Truth untutor'd guides the hand of Fame.
