JEROME ANDREWS was a successful Klondiker of the Klondike Gold Rush(1896-1899) and was the hero in the saving of the vessel "Bertha". Upon his return from Alaska, when as the leader of twenty miners, he went into the hull and after a period of eighteen hours shifted the ballast letting the ship right herself she having been turned upon her side and adrift. Upon reaching port, the Captain resigned and the commission was tendered by its owners to the man who had brought cargo and passengers to the dock.

On February 20th, 1900. Jerome Andrews was appointed on the local school committee in Dyea, Alaska.

William Edgar Wilson , son of Mrs . Jerome Andrews , d at the Andrews home Tuesday . b 17 years ago last July at Dyea , Alaska . His father , Edgar Wilson , said to be the founder of Dyea and the first white man to cross the Chilkoot Pass .
