Herbert W. Andrews died at the age of 82 on Wednesday, Oct. 9, with family by his side, after a short illness. He had been a resident at the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris for the past two years.

Herbert was born in Portland and grew up in Norway. He graduated from high school in 1949, and attended college in Boston, graduating from Bryant and Stratton College. Herbert joined the U.S. Navy in 1951, and served during the Korean War.

He founded the Call of the Wild, Inc. in Oxford in 1965, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1993.

Herbert was married for 50 years to the former Barbara Piirainen, until her death in 2004.

He was a member of the Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club, Oxford Lodge 18 AF & AM, Kora Shrine, the Scottish Rite and was a past treasurer of RVDA.
