Our people were sadly surprised Saturday morning to hear of the death of Mr. J. D. Ankrom, of Paden's Valley.

He was in his usual health. He slept with son Richard who noticed something wrong about 2:00 am. He lit a lamp and Mr. Ankrom, after a breath or two, was dead.Mr. Ankrom was born on March 4, 1822, in the town of New Martinsville.

When he was about six years of age, his father moved the family on the farm which Mr. Ankrom possessed when he died. His age was 68 years, 7 months, and 12 days. He was the father of eight children, five of whom are living.

Funeral services were held at his home after which the body was taken on the noon train to this city and thence to the cemetery, where he was laid to rest beside his wife and mother. Mr. Ankrom was a highly honored and respected citizen of this county.
