Georgia M. Ansel, 86, of Fort Dodge, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 11, 2011, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at a later date in Cumberland, MD; with the Upchurch Funeral Home serving the family. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cumberland, MD.
Survivors include her daughter, Debra Ansel Mersch of Fort Dodge; sons, Donald Ansel of LaVale, MD; David Ansel of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer Olmstead of Virden, IL; Michael Olmstead of Ankeny, IA; Michael, Scott and Brian Ansel; and numerous great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Beulah (Whitmer) Pickard; and her husband, Wayne.
Georgia Marie Pickard was born on April 19, 1925, in Harrisonburg, VA. As a child she moved with her family to Cumberland, MD. She attended schools there and graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1943. Following her education she went to work for the Department of Social Services for over 22 years; until her retirement in 1983. On May 13, 1945, she was united in marriage to John Wayne Ansel at St. Patrick's Church in Cumberland. The couple made their home in Cumberland, MD. She enjoyed reading and collecting antiques. Georgia loved spending time with her family and friends.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
