Lois M. Akins of Hainesport passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at home with her family by her side. She was 81.

She was a retired phone operator with the Florida Waterman Hospital in Tavares, Fla. Prior to living in Hainesport, she resided at Recreation Plantation in Lady Lake, Fla., where she was an active golfer and had many dear friends. She loved crossword puzzles and playing dominos.

Daughter of the late Hillman and Alice Applegate; wife of the late Charles Russell Akins; sister of the late Hazel Berry, Marge Sloan, Vivian Jaensch, she was loving mother to Robin and Elmer Major, Cindy and Mike Haley, Russell Akins and Kathie Kennedy; grandmother to Heather and Greg McCummings, Brian and Heather Major, Kelly and Mike Morawa, Patrick Akins, Matthew and Jessica Akins, and Jeffrey Akins; great-grandmother to Brandon and Meadow Major, Jordan and Cale Morawa, Hannah, Colton and Austin McCummings, Kyle and Katelynn Akins, Jade Akins; sister to Robert Applegate, Naomi Netzer, Marion and Milt Wilson, Shirley and Ralph Longmore, and Rudy Jaensch; and a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family Monday, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. Graveside service will follow at the Mt. Holly Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice, 5 Eves Dr., Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
