Reba Ann Alvis, 91, of Bakersfield, CA, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2006. Reba passed peacefully during the night at her home of 55 years. Reba was born on September 20, 1915 in Club Springs, Tennessee to Letcher and Mamie Armistead. She was married to Roy Duke Alvis on January 20, 1932 in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. They remained married for 57 years until Roy's death in 1989. Reba moved to Bakersfield with her husband Roy in 1936 and remained throughout the remainder of her life. She was a loving wife and mother, as well as a good friend to her many neighbors. She was a dedicated Christian, who loved her Lord Jesus Christ. One of her great passions throughout her life was her love of gardening and spending countless hours in her yard. It was no coincidence that her yard received many compliments. She truly had a "green' thumb. She loved family gatherings and receiving phone calls and visits from family and friends. She was a good person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy and daughter Linda. Reba is survived by her son, Ken and wife Felicia. She leaves behind grandchildren, Melinda Calhoun and husband Doug, Chess Ward and wife Natalie, Corey Alvis, Alisha Alvis, Laura Shinn and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine Murray and husband Charles and brother, Leslie Armistead and wife Mildred.
