Johnny Ray Armstrong was born March 18, 1947 in Harleton, Harrison County, Texas; son of Mary Frances Cook & the adopted son of James Watson "Jimmy" Armstrong; He was the oldest grandchild of William Thomas "Will" Cook, Jr & Georgian Victor Emily Miller Cook. He was found dead in his home in Ore City, Upshur County, Texas, on March 8, 2012 by a friend.

Johnny married Barbara Lynne May on 04 Jun 1967 in Cedar Springs Baptist Church, Upshur County, TX. This marriage ended in divorce 12 Dec 1985 in Anderson County, Texas.

Johnny Ray served his country in Vietnam.

Together Johnny & Barbara had two children-a boy & a girl: Jeremy Ryan Armstrong & Jodi Amanda Armstrong.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his son; his daughter; two grandchildren; his mother, Mary Frances Armstrong; Sisters: Martha Gail Armstrong Booher & Judy Ann Armstrong Stafford; & numerous Aunts, Uncles, neices, nephews & many cousins.

Memorial services for Johnny Ray Armstrong, 65, of Ore City, Texas will be held 3:00 P.M, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Missionary Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. Mr. Armstrong died on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at his home in Ore City.

Born on March 18, 1947, in Harleton to James "Jimmy" Watson and Mary Frances Cook Armstrong, he graduated from Ore City. He served in the U. S Army during the Vietnam War and was a Bronze Star recipient. Mr. Armstrong was a retired entrepreneur.

He is survived by his mother Mary Frances Armstrong of Hughes Springs; son, Jeremy Armstrong of Palestine; daughter Jodi Morken of Dallas; sisters, Martha Gail Armstrong Booher of Ennis, Judy Ann Armstrong Stafford of Jefferson; two grandchildren; numerous aunts and uncles; one niece and two nephews.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer.
