Bethel was the d/o the late Dr George Esley and Ada Sigman Arthur. She was a lifelong resident of Webster County, WV, her ancestors were some of the first permanent settlers at Fort Lick and were instrumental in the formation of Webster County. She was an international award winning poet and a member of the National Poet Society and she co-published many songs. Her poetry was published in more than a dozen books and some of her work was showcased on NBC. She enjoyed gardening flowers, playing Scrabble and reading, particularly her Bible. A member of First Baptist Church in Cowen, WV, Bethel served on multiple church boards and was also a Sunday school teacher, served as the Sunday school superintendent, and was a member of the Women's Club. She is survived by her husband, David Angus.
