Bethel was the d/o the late Dr George Esley and Ada Sigman Arthur. She was a lifelong resident of Webster County, WV, her ancestors were some of the first permanent settlers at Fort Lick and were instrumental in the formation of Webster County. She was an international award winning poet and a member of the National Poet Society and she co-published many songs. Her poetry was published in more than a dozen books and some of her work was showcased on NBC. She enjoyed gardening flowers, playing Scrabble and reading, particularly her Bible. A member of First Baptist Church in Cowen, WV, Bethel served on multiple church boards and was also a Sunday school teacher, served as the Sunday school superintendent, and was a member of the Women's Club. She is survived by her husband, David Angus.

Bethel Ann (Arthur) Angus, 89, of Cowen, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Summersville Regional Medical Center in Summersville.

Born November 4, 1926 in Webster Springs, she was the daughter of the late Dr. George Esley and Ada (Sigman) Arthur. She was a lifelong resident of Webster County; her ancestors were some of the first permanent settlers at Fort Lick and were instrumental in the formation of Webster County. Bethel was an International Award Winning Poet and a member of the National Poet Society; she co-published many songs, her poetry was published in more than a dozen books and some of her work was showcased on NBC. She enjoyed gardening flowers, playing Scrabble and reading; particularly her Bible. A member of First Baptist Church in Cowen, Bethel served on multiple church boards and was also a Sunday School Teacher, served as the Sunday School Superintendant and was a member of the Women's Club.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, David Angus of Cowen; sons, George Edward Angus (Tonda) of Huntington, Gene "Pete" Angus (Patty) of Cowen, and Brian Angus (Kimberly) of Cowen; grandchildren, Jason Angus, Kelly Beth Dangelo (John), Kristina Estudillo (Adam), David Angus (Linda), Ryan Angus (Kara) and Nathan Angus (Randi); great-grandchildren, Abrianna Angus, Will Angus, Sarah Beth Dangelo, Ella Grace Dangelo, Baylee Estudillo, Noah Angus, Seth Angus, Grant Angus, Gracyn Angus, Jude Angus, Fiona Angus, Madison Angus, Joanna Angus, Emily Angus; sisters, Dixie Angus of Buckhannon and Helen Benton of Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, Bethel was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Mattox and Rose Critzer.

Services will be held 10 am on Friday, April 29, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Cowen, with Brian Angus officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen.

Friends may join the family for visitation 5-8 pm on Thursday night, April 28, 2016 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home.
