Wife of George Lawrence Carman Ashby, whom she married on May 14, 1909, and mother of Edward Carman Ashby.
Marriage - Ashby - Gentil - Pine Street was the scene of a quiet house wedding at 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening, when Mrs. Edna Gwendolin Gentil, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hildreth, of the Foster House, was married to George Carman Ashby, the genial salesman in the store of the Sayville Lumber and Hardware Co. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Gilbert B. Thurston in the presence of the members of the families of the contracting parties and a number of invited guests. There were no special decorations, but the rooms were prettily garnished with a profusion of plants.
The bride was very charming in an embroidered robe of white batiste, and Miss Lottie Heidtmann, as bridesmaid, wore a becoming gown of the same material. The groom was attended by Samuel Scott as best man. The ceremony took place in the cottage where the happy couple are to reside. After the congratulations the company sat down to a fine wedding collation.
Mr. and Mrs. Ashby will not take the customary wedding trip, preferring to spend their honeymoon in their cozy home. Both are popular young people and we welcome them as permanent residents.
Obituary - Ashby - Edna G., of East Williston, L.I., July 2, 1968. Beloved mother of Armand Gentil and Edward C. Ashby. Sister of Madeline Wallace. Also survived by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Service was today at 9:30 a.m. at the Fairchild Chapel, Garden City, with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Patchogue, L.I.
