BASTROP, LA. Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Elaine Powell Aswell will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with the Reverends Willis Wilkerson and John McGregor officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Mrs. Aswell was born September 26, 1929 in Rayville, Louisiana and she passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Beaumont, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis Powell and Dora Williams Powell, her husband, Eugene Henry Aswell, Sr.; a son, Eugene Henry Aswell, Jr.; a daughter, Evelyn Aswell Martin; three brothers and six sisters.
Mrs. Alice Aswell was a lifelong resident of Bastrop and a member of the Cherry Ridge Church of God. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crafting and crocheting when she wasn't busy spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Annette Aswell Cornman and husband, Gary of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana; a son, Jeffrey Aswell and wife, Karen of West Monroe, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Judy Aswell of Bastrop, Louisiana; son-in-law, Gary Martin of West Monroe, Louisiana; two sisters, Marie Cheeks of Rayville, Louisiana and Ruby Jean Scarbrough of Grayson, Louisiana; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Gary Martin, Casey Martin, Shannon Murphy, Richard Carson, Ricky Carson, and Sam Sale.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.
