Carey E. Andes
ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Carey E. Andes, 83, of 207 Atkinson Ave., Elon College, died at 12:11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, after several years declining health.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 1997, at Elon College Community Church, conducted by the Rev. Arch Aitcheson. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
A native of Guilford County, she was a daughter of the late John D. Atkins and the late Ruth Hunt Atkins. She was a secretary for several years with Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ. She was a member of Elon College Community Church and the church choir, and was a member of the Rose Society of Elon College.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. William J. Andes of the home; son, Mr. David Krueger Andes of Concord, N.H.; sister, Mrs. Evelyn Arace of Sarasota, Fla.; brother, Mr. William H. Atkins of Troy; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John D. Atkins Jr.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Parish House of the church. The body will remain at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, until time to be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
