Anna Kathryn Atkinson was born on February 13, 1920 in Clarksville, Tennessee, the eldest of five children born to William Herschel Wall Sr (1888–1977) and Lina (Adkins) Wall (1896–1981).

She graduated from Clarksville High School and attended Austin Peay State University for two years before transferring to Athens State University in Athens, Alabama where she completed her undergraduate degree. After college, she returned to Clarksville where she taught math and science until her marriage to Dr Edward Rudolph Atkinson (1916–1999) in 1942.

Anna accompanied her husband to his posts in the Army Air Corps until his discharge in 1946. At that time, they returned home to Clarksville where Edward established the first pediatric practice in Montgomery County. Anna kept the books for the practice in those early days and managed the household finances. She also raised their three children and kept things running smoothly at home.

Apart from her devotion to her family, her interests included reading, cooking, travel, needlework, bridge, flower gardening and arranging, and volunteer work at Clarksville's First Presbyterian Church. There she taught children's Sunday School and summer Bible School Classes. She was also an active member of the Women of the Church and was given a life membership in that organization several years before her death. After her husband's death in 1999, she was elected to a term as an elder in the church.

Anna was a beautiful and gracious Southern Lady who could quickly make others feel at ease around her. Her quiet inner strength and determination allowed her to be a positive influence on family and friends even in difficult circumstances. Throughout her life, she served as a wonderful role model of a strong woman to her daughter, nieces, and granddaughters, and was the beloved matriarch to her entire family.

A resident at Greenfield of Oak Ridge, she passed away on December 31, 2014.

Preceded in death by all members of her birth family, her husband and her younger son Bill, she was survived by a son, married daughter, two married granddaughters, four great-grandsons, a sister-in-law, brother-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services were held in Oak Ridge at First Presbyterian Church [and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville].
