Alvis D. "Al" Atwell, of Gettysburg, died March 19, 2013, in York.

He was born October 8, 1933 in Nebo, VA, the son of the late Alvis A. and Mary Ann Cregger Atwell.

Mr. Atwell was a veteran of the U. S. Navy.

He was employed for 25 years as a truck driver for Yellow Freight Company retiring in 1998. Following his retirement he worked part-time at Boyds Bears in Adams County.

Mr. Atwell was a member of the Harney VFW, the Central Pennsylvania Teamsters, and the Maryland Retreads Motorcycle Club. Al enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spotting eagles in Adams County and playing his guitar but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Al is survived by his wife of 54 years Geraldine Fogle Atwell, and surviving in addition to her, is a son, Alvis D. Atwell, Jr. and wife Patty of Gettysburg; daughter, Laura A. Klinefelter and husband Charlie of Gettysburg; three grandchildren; Daniel M. Smith Jr., Joseph M. Smith, Ryan M. Atwell; a step-granddaughter, Erin E. Valentine and husband Nick; a step great granddaughter; sister, June Ellen Russell and husband Carl of Marion, VA; two brothers; Noel W. Atwell and wife Julie of Westminster, MD, Donnie R. Atwell and wife Barbara of Taneytown, MD and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, March 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, with interment in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
