Mrs. Elizabeth Auchincloss, for fifty years or more prominent n New York society, died on Sunday afternoon at her home, 11 West Fifty-seventh Street. Mrs. Auchincloss, who at the time of her death was the oldest member of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, had been ill only a few days. She returned last week from her Summer home in Newport, of which she was a pioneer Summer cottager more than half a century ago. She was born eighty-six years ago in the family mansion in Liberty Street, her father being one of the wealthy dry goods merchants of the city. She was married to John Auchincloss, and the couple lived for a time in Whitehall Street, but when crowded out by the encroachment of business houses moved up to what was then the suburbs, now the heart of the city.
