AGED CITIZEN PASSED AWAY

EDWARD AURELIUS DIED FOLLOWING ILLNESS OF ONLY FEW DAYS.

VETERAN TINPLATE WORKER

Stricken two weeks ago with a severe attack of stomach trouble from

which he had been suffering to a lesser degree for several years,

Edward Aurelius, age 70, passed away Saturday evening at his home at 1417

South Twenty-third Street. The deceased was one of the oldest and best-known

Tin Plater workers in the city and the news of the death was learned

throughout the community yesterday with a feeling of the deepest regret.

Mr. Aurelius was a native of Wales in the year 1845. More than a quart-

er of a century ago, he came to this country, located in Chicago, where he

was employed for a time. He had learned his trade as a steel worker in

the old country and his services at the time were greatly in demand.

Twenty-three years ago, at the opening of the Tin Plate here, he came to

Elwood and until his health began failing he was steadily employed at

the plant here. He was one of the most faithful workmen and one of the

most popular men at the plant.

SERVED AS COUNCILMAN.

Mr. Aurelius, throughout his life in Elwood was always deeply interested

in politics and public affairs generally. He was a staunch Republican

and several years ago represented his ward in the city council, serving

for one term during which he faithfully performed every duty that presented

itself to him. He was a member of the Knights of St. George and was a man

who in every way was recognized as a citizen whose loss will be generally mourned.

Mrs. Aurelius died nine years ago and the deceased is survived by five children:

James, John, Samuel and Sarah Aurelius and Mrs. Edith Cowley all of this city.

Several grandchildren also survived him.

The Funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Rev. J. F. Hadcliffe and

Rev. C. J. Bunnell was in charge. Interment will occur in the city cemetery.
