Ronald Averill was born in Tracy, Minnesota, on May 20, 1942, the son of Mort and Dorothy (Silver) Averill. He grew to manhood in this area and left home at the age of 18 to find work. Ronald enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent several years in Germany as a specialist 4th Class. Ronald lived for a period of time in St. Cloud where he worked as a meat cutter and also worked as a welder in St. Paul and Carlos. He also worked various construction jobs. In his spare time Ronald enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ron was an avid waterfowl hunter, decoy carver, layout artist and was one of the best Canadian goose callers (by mouth only) in the country. Unaided by any man-made devices, Ron could turn a flock of uninterested honkers 180 degrees until they would fly directly over him for a kill. His brother, Duwayne, had seen this happen many times.
Ron had just completed a two week trip through Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks where he thoroughly enjoyed the gorgeous scenery of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Ron had a chance to fish trout also at Jackson Hole.
He died May 19, 2004 at his home in Alexandria, at the age of 61 years. He is survived by his brother: Duwayne Averill of Alexandria; and sisters: Jane Rodeschind of Medford, NJ, and Judith Roth of Minneapolis. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, and twin brother: Donald Averill.
Funeral services were held May 22, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with Rev. Al Ludwig officiating. Interment was in the St. Mary's Church Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by VFW Post 936. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
