James J. Avery, formerly of Philadelphia, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, surrounded by his family at his daughter's residence in Washington Township, N.J. He was 86.

He was employed as a tool and die maker for the Frankford Arsenal.

Jim proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a proud recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart and was a DAV and a POW.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Lemauro); loving father of James J. Avery Jr. (Ann), and Mary Jane Hrapczynski (Bob); grandfather of Brian J. Avery, Stephen J. Avery, Robert M. Hrapczynski II and Ryan M. Hrapczynski; brother of the late William J. Avery Jr. (Betty), Frances DeFilippis (Dan), Joseph A. Avery, Edward R. Avery (the late Mary), Sister Frances William, GNSH, Joan D. Conrey (Jim), and Jean T. Del Fera.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jim's life celebration and viewing from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. this Saturday at Snover/Givnish of Cinnaminson, N.J., 1200 Route 130 North. His funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church, 502 New Jersey Ave. Riverside. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DAV Charitable Service Trust, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
