AVIS – Mr. A. Gordon Avis, formerly of 830 18 Avenue S.W., passed away at the Holy Cross Hospital on February 22, 1986 at the age of 90 years. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Avis, Calgary; two nephews, Donald Avis, Calgary and Walter Avis, Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A., a niece Audrey Avis, Calgary and by two grand-nephews, Andrew and Michael Avis, Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A.; friends, Henry Rondeau, Drayton Valley, Alberta and Alvin Wood, Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Annie Avis; six brothers: John, George, Frank, Walter, Alfred and Harold Avis and by three sisters, Caroline Hall, Ethel and Esther Avis. He was born in Cockburn Island, Algoma, Ontario and came west in 1911 to Calgary and resided at Calgary since. Mr. Avis was employed with United Grain Growers for many years until his retirement. Funeral Services will be held at Leyden’s “Chapel of Remembrance” (18 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.) Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. C. Gordon Ashdown officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Burnsland Cemetery.
