Adrian "Bud" Ayers, chief of Sumner police for eight years, died Friday, July 12, 1985 in Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind. He was 40 years old and resided at 119 Sycamore St., Sumner.

Born in Olney, November 14, 1944, he was a son of Arnold and Lorraine Ayres. August 16, 1962, he was married to Linda Dow, who survives him.

Also surviving are his mother, Lorraine Julian of Oakland, Ind.; three sons, Kevin Ayres, Jeffrey Ayres and Dale Ayres, all at home; one daughther, Teresa Ayres at home; one brother, Alan Ayres of Flat Rock; and three sisters, Arlene Stanley of Olney, Pauline Shehorn of Albuquerque, N.M., and Alice Carter of Palestine.

Poor health caused Mr. Ayers to resign his position as Sumner police chief last month.

Funeral services were conducted Monday from Central Christian Church in Sumner with Elton Carlson officiating. Interment followed in Sumner Cemetery with the staff of Sivert-Macey Funeral Home in charge.

A contingent of fellow law enforcement, officers from the City, County and State served as honor pallbearers and honor guard at the funeral service and at the cemetery.
