Per his death certificate found on Ancestry.com: he was a son of William H. Babcock and Annie Earle and the husband of Amelia Clarkson Babcock. He was a patent attorney. He resided in Herndon, Fairfax, Virginia and died at Arlington Hospital of a possible cerebral hemorrhage due to aspiration of food. The informant was Richard E. Babcock, Jr. of Rt 4, Box 142, Vienna, VA.

Found in the Intelligencer Journal (Lancaster, PA) June 28, 1957: Richard E. Babcock, sixty-eight, a Washington patent attorney and formerly of Lancaster, died Wednesday at the Arlington, Va., Hospital. While a resident of Lancaster, he was a patent attorney for a number of local firms. A native of Washington, he was a graduate of Western High School and George Washington University. Since, 1942, he made his home at Herndon, Va., R2. He was a former secretary of the American Patent Law Assn., which cited him in 1956 for 50 years' continuous service as a patent attorney. Surviving are his wife, Amelia C., two sons, Richard E., formerly of Lancaster and now living in Vienna, Va., and William H., Sterling, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Georgie B. Ostend of Arlington, Va., and five grandchildren.
