Mr. Babcock was born in Scott, NY to Justus Babcock and his wife Keziah Alvord Babcock. He enlisted on Sept. 8, 1862 at Scott, NY into Co. D, NY 157th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded at Gettysburg (shot through the calf of his leg), and was killed at Hilton Head, SC on Aug. 20, 1864. He was the brother of Lewis, Nancy, Ursula, Thomas, Theresa, Mary and Harriet.
