Ella May Babcock was the daughter of John and Fynette Ellarson Babcock from Waukesha, Wisconsin. Ella was born in 1871 in Iowa as her family moved west - living in both Iowa and Kansas before they settled in Everett, Snohomish County, Washington. Ella first married George Phillips with whom she had five children: Lyle, Lillian, George, John and Evelyn. They were married for 40 years and had moved to San Diego, California. They were divorced around 1930 and Ella married Carl Kuhnert and moved to Hawthorne California. Carl died in 1940. Ella again married - this time to silent film actor, Bert Appling. He passed away in 1960.
