Josiah and Sarah were married March 24, 1819 At Northfield, NH. He remained on the homestead and succeeded his father in the ownership of the farm. Tradition has it that he was an industrious, prudent and liberal man. For several years he was a deacon of the Free Baptist Church. Josiah contributed liberally to support support of the ministry and aided the missionary's educational and benevolent institutions. He was a Whig, then allied with the Republicans, on the formation of that party.

•William Adams who was born July 4, 1823 in Andover and died there December 28, 1902. He married, February 19, 1852 Adaline Elizabeth Shaw. She is the daughter of Abraham and Hannah (Fifeld) Shaw. She was born in Salisbury, October 5, 1829 and died in Manchester, January 17, 1896. They had 4 children.
•Mary Elizabeth who was born November 12, 1829. She married, on November 4, 1851, George Edwin Emery, son of Willard and Sarah (Hobart) Emery. He was born in Andover March 29, 1828 and died in London, England January 6, 1900. They had four daughters: Mary Ellen Bryant, Mabel Sarah, Lizzie Genevieve and Annie Gertrude. The family resided at Lynn, Essex co, MA.
