Harry J. Bacon Jr.

Age 79 of Wilmington, DE died suddenly on Sunday, October 18, 2009. He was the son of the late, Harry and Nora Bacon.

Harry was a 1947 graduate of Salesianum. He was a member of the Delaware Air National Guard. Harry was employed with Shields Lumber and Hardware for 38 years and continued to work in the hardware business until his retirement. He was a longtime dedicated parishioner at Corpus Christi Church, where he served as a chair of the building committee for the new church, and as a member of the parish council. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Bacon and by his sister, Judy Mahoney.

Harry is survived by, his wife of 57 years, Mary (Brown) Bacon, his sons, Harry J. Bacon, III, and his wife Linda, Joseph P. Bacon and his wife, Cynthia; Dennis Bacon and his wife Patricia, his daughters, Mary Roepke and her husband Robert and Catherine Bacon, his sister, Doris Murphy, 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and he is also survived by a son-in-law, David Ricucci.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church 905 New Road Elsmere, on Friday October 23, at 9:30am. Burial will be in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME 3200 Limestone Road Pike Creek on Thursday evening from 6 to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Harry may be sent to the Corpus Christi Church Building Fund 905 New Road Elsmere, DE 19805.
