Lell Olsen Bagley 1927 ~ 2006 Our noble husband, father and grandfather, Lell Olsen Bagley, age 79, passed away on September 21, 2006 at home surrounded by his loving family, after a 19 year struggle with Parkinson's disease. Lell performed his many roles in life with diligence and in exemplary fashion: father, friend, chaplain, dentist, bishop, and "kind-hearted cowboy." Lell was born August 27, 1927, in Koosharem, Utah to E. Merrill and Ruby Olsen Bagley. Lell loved ranch life and the outdoors. He was a consummate horseman, and his love of the mountains, fine horses, and the semi-annual cattle drives was lifelong. Time spent at his beloved cabin in the Lone Pine Pasture on Monroe Mountain was particularly treasured. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1945, attended Snow College and USU, and then served an LDS Mission in the Hawaiian Islands from 1947 to 1949. He developed and maintained a lifelong love of the Hawaiian Islands, people and language. He took his wife to Hawaii on their honeymoon and on many other occasions. He married Carole Deanne Baker on May 31, 1952 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. He was graduated from BYU the following Monday, and the two left for their honeymoon to Hawaii that same day. Upon their return, Lell received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army to serve as a chaplain. He served for three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following the war, Lell remained in the Army Reserves until retiring as a bird colonel. Lell attended dental school at Georgetown University, graduating in 1960. He practiced dentistry in Richfield, Utah until 1963, when he and his family relocated to Salt Lake City. He continued to practice dentistry in Salt Lake, both in private practice and with the Veterans Administration, until his retirement in 1987. Lell was a member of the LDS church, and served faithfully in numerous callings throughout his life, including stake high councilor, bishop's counselor, high priests group leader, bishop, and home teacher, among other callings. Lell's entire life, particularly during his extended illness, has been and will continue to be a profound lesson to all around him in the virtues of patience, grace, unique humor, service, an unwillingness to complain or entertain self pity, perseverance, sacrifice, sense of proportion, focus, tenacity and gratitude. He is survived by his wife: Carole; five children: James (Sarab), Robert (Julie), Elizabeth Rudman (Tony), Edward (Lisa), Matthew (Denise); 14 grandchildren; and siblings: Melva Harward, Lowell Bagley, Jay Bagley, and Carolyn Edwards. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Elaine Bagley and Fern Johnson. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at the Valley View Tenth Ward meetinghouse, located at 2000 E. 3900 S., Salt Lake City. The family will receive visitors at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, on Monday, September 25, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the services on Tuesday, September 26, 2006.
