"James A. Bailey, father of Capt. Harvey D. Bailey, died at his home in Mason, W.Va., on Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 1905. He arose from his bed in apparent good health. While standing by his bed he inquired about the weather, and immediately fell back upon his bed and expired in a few minutes. It is believed that Mr. Bailey was the oldest man in Mason County. He was married to Permelia Payne in Mason County, Dec. 22, 1832, of which marriage there were 11 children, 38 grand children and 37 great grand children. During his long life he enjoyed almost unbroken good health. He never had a serious illness. He lived a very temperate and peaceful life, it having often been noted that no one had ever seen him angry."

Editors note: At the time of his death James A. and his oldest son Thomas Henry shared a home. James and Permelia were married July 5, 1832 according to the Court House Register.

If the tomb stone is given a blink
We shall find each broken link
Then the star that faded here
In our hearts becomes more dear
