PACKS BRANCH — Eugene Ray Bailey, 71, of Packs Branch departed this life Sunday, March 30, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at the University of Virginia Medical Center following a short illness.

Born February 7, 1937, at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Oliff Andrew Bailey (1900-1966) and Daisy Ellen Young-Bailey (1904-1946). He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew Bailey (Deceased), Vernon Bailey (Deceased) and Leonard Bailey (Deceased); sister, Cora Bailey-Graley (Deceased); and daughter-in-law, Beverly Manning-Bailey (Deceased).

Eugene was a "Child of the King" and a member of Packs Branch Baptist Church serving God as deacon. He was proud to serve God by caring for the elderly members of the community. He was a retired coal miner, having worked 37 years in the mines, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Edith "Ileatta" Maynor-Bailey (B. 1941) whom he married on March 23, 1957 in Colcord, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1957, Page 91, Application Date: March 18, 1957); his mother-in-law, Edith Workman of Colcord; sons, Ricky Bailey and wife, Vonda, of Red Star, Randall Bailey and wife, Stephanie, of Prosperity, Billy Bailey and wife, Anna, of Bradley and Robert Bailey and wife, Dinah, of Packs Branch; daughters, Robin Bailey-Williams and husband, Dennis, of Packs Branch and Renae Bailey-McGinnis and husband, Bruce, of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Racheal Meadows and husband, Bobby, Jeremy Bailey, Lewis Bailey and wife, Yolanda, Matthew Bailey and wife, Courtney, Michael Bailey, Jason Bailey, Joey Bailey, Jonathan Williams, Gary Williams and fiancée, Megan, Ashley Bailey, Amanda Bailey and Dakota Newman; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Meadows, Bailey Meadows, Jacob Meadows, Brenna Bailey, Madison Bailey, Danielle Bailey and Cassidy Bailey.

Also left to cherish his memory are six sisters, Evelyn Bailey-Robinson, Ethel Bailey-Taylor, Edith Bailey-Taylor and husband, Johnnie, Linda Bailey-Toney and husband, Carl, Helen Bailey-Blevins and husband, Jimmy, and Betty Lou Bailey-Laxton and husband, Ulysses; special friends, Ed and Verna Osteen and Keith and Janie DeLung; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Service will be noon Friday, April 4, at Packs Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Vance and the Rev. Harmon Davis officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
