Captain J. Burton Baker of Division St., Dennis Port, lived only two months after the death of his wife of nearly 67 years. It was in September of last year, 1957, that they passed their 66th wedding anniversary. Because neither one was enjoying robust health the day was marked only by cards and flowers and a few callers, but Mrs. Baker said it brought them many pleasant memories. She died this summer, in July, and he died last week at the South Yarmouth Nursing Home after a short illness there. He was 91 and she 89. After so many years together they were not separated for long. He was well known to many Cape Cod folks as Capt. Baker of the "Triton," his sailboat which was a forerunner of today's charter boats. A native of Dennis, he attended West Dennis school and grew up in the town. For many of his later years he was caretaker of the J. R. Strong estate in Dennis Port. An active member of Mt. Horeb Lodge, A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years, he was tyler for more than 35 of them. Mrs. Baker was Clara T. Baker and she used to say that she changed neither her name nor address when she married, for she was born on the Harwich side of Division St., at the corner of Main St., and spent her last years with Capt. Baker on the Dennis Port side of the same street at the corner of Hall Street. She had been a member of the Masona Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a founder of the Martha Richards Society.
