L. M. Baldwin Dies At Age of 85 Years

Funeral services for Le Grande M. Baldwin, 85, one of the original owners of the Bake Rite bakeries in Portland, who died at his home, 3327 N.E. 20th avenue, Saturday, will be held at the Holman and Lutz chapel Tuesday at 3 P.M. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery and Rev. W. L. VanNuys, Rev. L. K. Grimes and Dr. C. J. Pike will officiate.

Mr. Baldwin was born in Hinesburg, Vt., December 25, 1855, and came to Portland as an official of the Woolworth company in 1804. He opened the first 5-10-15 cent stores in the northwest and was with the Woolworth organization for about 18 years.

After leaving the firm's employ, he opened the Bake Rite bakeries with his two sons, Pierre and Myron. Ill health forced his retirement three years ago.

Mr. Baldwin was a member of Hinson Memorial church and a charter member of Cascade college and the State Holiness association.

In addition to the two sons, he is survived by the widow, Lola; a sister, Miss E. M. Baldwin of Portland and three grandchildren.

Employes of the baker will serve as active pallbearers at the funeral and honorary pallbearers will include W. E. Simonton, Fred Luse, John St. Rayner, James James, John Crawford and Victor Lohkoski.
