Graduate of the University of Arizona and Columbia Medical School. Veteran of World War II. Served as an Army Captain and Medical doctor. Credited as the first surgeon in the United States to pioneer modified radical neck dissection. From 1974 until 1990, held the title of Surgeon and Professor of Surgery in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery.

Preceded in death by his sister, Merle Platt.
