Emily Harrington was the daughter of Rev. Alfred S. Harrington and Abigail Beach. Though the headstone places her birth in 1844, early Census records consistenly show she was born about 1839, in New York. Her family moved from New York to Michigan when Emily was still an infant, settling in Macomb County. In 1860, Emily married Charles E. Ball. The marriage took place in Sanilac County. The couple initially made their home in Huron County, moved temporarily to St. Clair County, and then back to Huron County. This is where they adopted a son, who they named William Stanford Ball. About 1890, the family made their way west, settling in Washington State. By 1904, they moved one more, to Los Angeles County, California. Emily died in 1916, and Charles followed soon thereafter, in 1918.
