Bernard Lee Ball, USAF (Retired), age 94, passed peacefully into eternity on January 31, 2014 at his home in Georgetown, TX. Bernie was born on April 9, 1919 to Otis and Kitty Ball in his grandparents home in Fairplay, Missouri.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and trained as a medic. He later trained as a pilot and flew B-24's during WW II, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross for his expertise and courage during a mission over Yugoslavia.

He married his beloved wife, Roma in 1953 and lived in various places around the world until he retired in 1961. They settled in San Antonio where he was a Government service employee for the next 21 years. He and Roma moved to Austin in 1982 to be closer to their grandchildren, then moved to Georgetown in 2003.

He was predeceased by his wife, Roma i n 2008 and daughter, Deby in 2009. He is survived by his son David and wife Peggy, daughter Vicki and husband Jay, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and his siblings Norma, Delores and Butch.

Bernie was known for his love of woodwork, anything that had to do with sports and his awesome scrambled eggs. He will always be remembered as a faithful husband, father, grandfather and a great American hero!

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
